Past, Present, Future
Here is a sampling of the San Francisco Bay Area performances featuring musicians affiliated with River Within:
Hope Lutheran Church, El Sobrante, California
Quarterly Concert Series
Ellen DeCarlo, in collaboration with Hope Lutheran Church, has organized and performed in quarterly ensemble concerts since January, 2008. These concerts, an eclectic combination of various types of music and instrumentation, feature musicians of varying abilities from the San Francisco Bay Area. The venue is accessible for those audience members with special physical needs. Donations from concert-goers have helped to purchase mosquito nets for families in malaria-ridden countries, provide safe drinking water for families in Africa, start businesses through mico-credit loan programs for women around the world, address worldwide health care issues including breast cancer awareness and education in Chile, and meet the needs of the local homeless and hungry through the Greater Richmond Interfaith Program.
Ellen plays flute regularly with piano, bass, and vocals in a small ensemble during the morning worship service at Hope Lutheran Church. This group has gone off site to bring the Taize experience to the Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary in Berkeley (August 2010) and to provide music for memorial services.
West County Winds, El Cerrito, California
Community Symphonic Band
West County Winds performs in concert two to six times per year. Ellen has also participated in additional performances that include the Golden Gate Park Band Festival, City of El Cerrito Open House, and the Baxter Creek Dedication Ceremony (El Cerrito, CA).
Ellen DeCarlo has performed unaccompanied and in small ensembles for special events including weddings and anniversaries, both indoors and outdoors. These venues have included The Brix Restaurant in Napa, Old St. Hillary's Church in Tiburon, Rockefeller Estates in San Pablo, Hope Lutheran Church in El Sobrante, Rancho Nicasio in Marin County, and The Serenity Center in Pioneer, California.
Bell'Aria Flute Ensemble Performances
The Bell'Aria Flute Ensemble has performed for weddings at Rockefeller Estates in San Pablo, Preservation Park in Oakland, and Old St. Hillary's Church in Tiburon. They have performed at the Commissioner's Dinner for the city of El Cerrito and The Arlington Restaurant in Kensington. Bell'Aria also performs at fundraisers (supporting high school scholars at the Albany Solano Grill and Bar and Kensington Elementary students at the Richmond Country Club). Church concerts have included performances at St. Lukes' United Methodist Church in Richmond, and the Hope Lutheran Church Concert Series in El Sobrante.
An acoustic ensemble of two flutes and cello, Silverwood Trio has performed at weddings, concerts, church services, and other events. Perhaps the most unique performance was at the King Cavalier Dog Show in San Jose, California!
Flute, cello, and piano make up this group that performs in local concerts. They play original arrangements as well as traditional "classic" trio compositions.
Ellen performs peaceful, relaxing music on flute and on a gently-amplified auto harp. Her meditative auto harp music opens and closes the Taize service at Hope Lutheran Church in El Sobrante. She travels with her auto harp and flutes (Native American style, Alto flute, concert flute) to perform at Holistic Health and Craft Fairs.
